W Hotel Barcelona
Keep up to date on the progress of the newest W Hotel, scheduled to open in Barcelona in 2009, right here.
The new Barcelona W Hotel or "Barcelona Sail Hotel", as the locals are calling it due its shape, is expected to open its doors in the summer of 2009. The five star Barcelona W Hotel will be managed by the Starwood Group and will be the first high quality W brand hotel that Starwood opens in Europe.
The hotel will have 473 rooms and without doubt, one of the most awesome views in the city. The building which has been designed by the well known Spanish architect, Ricardo Bofill, is going to cost €180million to complete and will stand an impressive 90 metres tall.
Prepare yourself if you're a plane-spotter, Barcelona airport's flight path passes just a kilometre out-to-sea, and while you'll hear no engine-noise, you'll have an unrestricted view above the blue mediterranean.
We will keep you informed about the developments of this impressive hotel as we look forward to its official opening.

Update: August 8th 2008: Build of W Hotel Barcelona Continues.
We took a quick trip down to Barceloneta beach just east of the centre of Barcelona this week to see how the site of the W Hotel was developing, and took the photo accompanying.
It's still a long long way from being ready, but there's definite progress being made. Men in hard hats worked inside while we looked-on. The elevator shafts are now in place, and undoubtedly the first bookings will start to be taken very soon.
This photo gives a good impression of how the hotel will sit into the seascape and also the overall height of the hotel, which is taller than any surrounding buildings.
More updates on the new W Hotel Barcelona soon.
